JIM ‘TECK’ TECKENBROCK Where do I start... I am the husband of my wife, Leann, I’m a proud father of five: Jim, Jill, Jay, T.J. and Taylor, and a proud grandfather of one very special little girl, Adelaide Ruth Johnson. I attended Plano High School, Waubonsee Community College, Northern Illinois University; am a U.S. Navy 1967-1971 Vietnam Veteran; currently Director of the Sandwich Economic Development Corporation; have a background in sales, coaching and education; and am a member of the Sandwich Chamber of Commerce, the Plano American Legion and the Sandwich VFW.
I started at WSPY in 1996 part-time in the sports department; play-by-play announcer, host of the Saturday Morning Sports Show and daily sports reports Monday-Saturday. Favorite moments in broadcasting have been broadcasting four state championship games involving our local teams. Each and every year the season opener in each sport is truly exciting for me. The most difficult part is saying goodbye to seniors each and every year, I appreciate all they have done during their high school careers as student/athletes.
I have broadcast games in all kinds of weather, on roof tops, sitting on top of tables, sitting in the stands along side the fans, literally from the rafters, but no matter what the weather, no matter where I was sitting or standing each broadcast is truly where I want to be. I hope my passion never wanes and I am able to do this for many, many more years to come. I consider it a privilege and a pleasure to cover the outstanding young women and men in our communities.
